The following are excerpts from the Bahá'í writings:

"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity.  Be worthy of the trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face.  Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge.  Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech.  Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men.  Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression.  Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all thine acts.  Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive.  Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring.  Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humanity." -  Bahá'u'lláh 

"The virtues and attributes pertaining unto God are all evident and manifest, and have been mentioned and described in all the heavenly Books. Among them are trustworthiness, truthfulness, purity of heart while communing with God, forbearance, resignation to whatever the Almighty hath decreed, contentment with the things His Will hath provided, patience, nay, thankfulness in the midst of tribulation, and complete reliance in all circumstances, upon Him."    Bahá'u'lláh


"The first, the fundamental purpose underlying creation, hath ever been, and will continue to be, none other than the appearance of trustworthiness and godliness, of sincerity and goodwill amongst mankind, for these qualities are the cause of peace, security and tranquility. "The Cause of Bahá'u'lláh is the same as the Cause of Christ.  It is the same Temple and the same Foundation.  Both of these are spiritual springtimes and seasons of the soul-refreshing awakening and the cause of the renovation of the life of mankind.  The spring of this year is the same as the spring of last year.  The origins and ends are the same.  The sun of today is the sun of yesterday.  In the coming of Christ,  the divine teachings were given in accordance with the infancy of the human race.  The teachings of Bahá'u'lláh have the same basic principles, but are according to the stage of the maturity of the world and the requirements of this illumined age."    Abdu'l-Bahá
                                                                                                                                   

The divine religions must be the cause of oneness among men, and the means of unity and love; they must promulgate universal peace, free men from every prejudice, bestow joy and gladness, exercise kindness to all men and do away with every difference and distinction.
